While counting calories is now believed to be a poor approach to losing weight, we know that we cannot eat unlimited portions. Therefore, it is important to get the most nutrients out of the calories we consume. In other words, we have to eat nutritious dense foods, with plenty of nutritional value and almost no calories.
List of Foods with Almost No Calories and a Ton of Nutrients
Celery is your classic zero-calorie meal. Consists mainly of water, by the time you have finished eating it, you have probably spent more calories than you have consumed. A serving of 100 g contains only 16 calories.
Broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables of all time. It’s great because it contains a ton of fiber, helping your digestive system, and even some plant proteins. There are only 34 calories in a 100 g serving.
With 52 calories per 100 g serving, apples actually have more calories than most foods on this list. But full of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, are worth it. Personally, I like to eat one as a snack between lunch and dinner to stop me from eating something much less healthy.

Cauliflower has anti-inflammatory properties and can help your heart and digestive system. Contains only 25 calories in a 100 g serving and can be used to make delicious pizza crusts. You can even burn more calories by preparing it than by eating it.
Grilled asparagus in the summer is one of my favorite dishes. It is plentiful but does not have many calories, only 20 in a 100 g serving.
Kale is one of the most nutrient-dense foods. For just 49 calories you get a ton of fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and protein.
Almost all types of mushrooms are low in calories. Mushrooms have only 38 calories in a 100 g serving, portabellas only 22. Put them in a sauce, a stir fry or even in a hamburger, they are tasty and nutritious.
Carrots are not only good for your eyesight. They also have anti-inflammatory properties, are a natural diuretic and can help stabilize your blood sugar levels. All that for only 41 calories per 100 g serving.
12. Brussels sprouts
Brussels sprouts are cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower; Therefore, have many of the same benefits, including being low in calories (only 43 per 100 g). But they are not everyone’s favorite vegetables. My sister despises them.
Watermelon is another summer favorite of mine. So sweet and juicy, who would have guessed that it is so low in calories? Only 30 in a 100 g serving and contains plenty of beneficial antioxidants, it really is a no-fault gift. It has even been known to boost metabolism. Just be sure not to abuse, which I’m definitely guilty of at times.
Zucchini has only 17 calories in a 100 g serving. I love it in a pasta sauce, but you can use it in a ton of different ways, even on the bread.
Onions are the starting point for many different recipes. When I do not know what I’m doing in the kitchen, I always start with frying some onions in a frying pan to get some flavor. It is good to know that I am not adding many calories, only 40 per 100 g. They also contain beneficial flavonoids.
