How can I keep my children safe from viral or bacterial infection?

Germs or microbes live everywhere. You can find them in the air, on plants and animals, on food, in water, in your body.

Most germs won’t harm you because the immune system of the body protects you. But, some germs are constantly mutating to breach the immune system’s defense. Parents often ask how they can protect children from germs, especially when children start daycare.

When children start daycare or school, they got sick a lot. Even in the most expensive schools with the best infrastructure and hygiene, your child may be exposed to a variety of viruses and other hazards.

For this reason Health organization Blue Cross has allocated 10 tips for children protection against viral and bacterial infection.

1. Handwashing is the most effective way to stop transmission of germs.  It is important that children learn at an early age the importance of hand washing for the prevention of infection and disease.

2. When kids cough or sneeze, they must put a hand or a handkerchief to their mouth or nose. The handkerchief have to be clean and new.

3. Make sure that your children get all necessary vaccines.

4. If your child is sick, let him spend more time at home, until he is fully recovered.

5. Learn your children to not drink from the same bottle or glass with other kids.

6. Playing outside and spending most of the time in nature is essential for mental and physical health.

7. Make sure that your children sleep enough because to many activities can affect their health condition.

8. Never allow your children to skip breakfast, because this is the most important meal of the day.

9. Learn your children to eat healthy! Always choose healthy meals and avoid fast food.

10. Always talk to your children when they are upset, ask about their problems. Watch out for signs of stress, because they are more emotional than adults, and stress can affect their health.
