One mom is fuming over this sexist toy aimed at girls
Luckily, my kids are growing out of their toy phase (which means I have less picking up to do around the house) but when they were younger, they loved playing with all sorts of toys, regardless if it was gender-specific or not.
In fact, my daughter would have her Barbie dolls ride around in fire trucks while my son would have his collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles meet for lunch at Barbie’s dream house.
Yet, one mother is fuming after she says a certain Fisher-Price Little People toy made a gender-specific product that stereotyped stay-at-home moms as people who have way too much time on their hands.
Mom Gina Zuk Gerber took to her Facebook page to express her total disappointment in Fisher Price for creating a toy that stereotypes stay-at-home moms in the worst way.
I mean, we’ve seen some really sexist toys in the past, but who in the world came up with this?!?
Gina wrote, “My son’s favorite toys growing up were Little People. I always just grabbed the fire truck or barn and didn’t think much about it.”
She continued, “Today when shopping for toys for Anna I was disgusted to see the ‘girl’ versions of Little People. The only ones with all girl figures were all smothered in pink and purple, they worked in interesting places like the ‘home,’ and they all lacked the multiple educational elements the ‘boys’ toys had. Then I set my eyes on this prize: “SUV” and a clearly mom looking figure.”
Tagline
She added, “Please note tagline ‘time for yoga and a smoothie.’ It’s 2016 people. Fisher Price needs to step it the f up and show women working in all types of fields and in leadership roles. OK off my soapbox. Carry on with your regularly scheduled Saturday night and election bashing….”
Honestly, I totally agree with this. I don’t drive an SUV, I’m not crazy about smoothies (a caramel macchiato will do though, thank you very much), and I haven’t done yoga in four years.
Not cool, Fisher-Price. Not cool at all.
Critics
It’s also gotten plenty of criticism from commenters who have said rather sarcastically, “They need a version for single ladies that says time to adopt another cat!”
Another writes, “Because all women do is yoga and sip smoothies. Oh Fisher Price you screwed up big time!”
