A lot of fathers are afraid when it comes down to things related with their daughters. And unavoidably many of these situations come sooner or later, which depends on life itself.
So let’s hope we do not all have to face the same problems that this dad had when he picked up his daughter from school one day.
He asked his daughter how was her day at school. She was still in grade school, so he thought she will give him stories of alphabetic learning and the human virtues and values such as sharing and caring about other people.
The little girl started speaking excitingly.
“Today,” she said proudly, “we learned that boys are different from girls!”
He looked at her and he was astonished.
“My teacher said that boys have a thing that girls don’t,” she continued.
“Ah…yes, well that is true,” the father replied slightly disturbed. He could not add something more to the conversation so he remained silent. But his daughter continued the conversation.
“See, that’s how girls know that boys ARE boys,” she said. “They see this little thing that hangs down and know: that is a boy!”
He did not know how to react in this situation and he couldn’t wait to get home.
“Did you know that boys swell up when they see a girl?” she asked, innocently.
When the father heard this he started sweating and panicking.
“I, ah, um…well…” he was trying to change the topic but he couldn’t think of a word due to the situation he was in.
Then she said.
“Daddy, why do girls like boys to have this thing?”
“Good lord,” the father thought. “What should I say? Hasn’t every woman asked that question at one point or another?”
“Oh…well, umm…you see sweetie…”
But she didn’t even wait for the answer.
“It’s because it waggles when they walk, so the girl knows that this is a boy and that she likes him. Then, the boy sees the girl and he swells up, and then the girl knows that he ALSO likes her,” she explained. “Then they get married, and then they get cooked!”
“Well, uncomfortable,” thought Dad, “but not wrong.”
===So even though he was confused with the word “cooked” that his daughter used he didn’t panic. He thought that perhaps those are not bad things that his daughter should know.
As they arrived home, the little girl fished something out of her school backpack and said, “Daddy, I drew a picture of what we learned at school today, wanna see?”
So he was still confused and not sure of whether he is right or wrong in how he was reacting. He glanced at his daughter’s drawing but when he saw with his own eyes what she drew he had to sit down.
So there was a crayon in which the large male turkey was drawn in details. His snood, or the red thing that male turkeys have which is found as attractive by female turkeys was drawn artistically, along with his feathers which made him stand proud and tall.
Her father found her painting hilarious and started laughing hard, which the girl found that offensive. However, he let her know that he loved and enjoyed her drawing.
He was not able to forget about the turkey.
