Tips for breastfeeding during extreme heat

Summer is finally here. When it comes to breastfeeding, on hot days it is necessary to pay attention to a few important items. We bring you some very important tips related to breastfeeding during extreme heat.

Hydration

If you plan to spend the day outdoors with your baby then make sure you bring a bottle of water on hot days because the body very quickly dehydrated. During the day, drink plenty of fluids, whether water, or fruit juice, as dehydration affects the lactation, and the last point you want is to run out of milk while you are out with your baby. On the other hand, if the baby is only breastfed and not eating solid food, even during extreme heat is not necessary to give her water, your milk will be enough.

Sunbathing

No matter of breastfeeding, you should not be afraid to spend time outside. Preferably avoid to be outdoors during the hottest parts of the day between 11 and 15 hours. During this period find air conditioned place to spend time, and it may not be just your home. Visit the museums, libraries, malls, or go to the pool. In the case of outdoor swimming pools, find thick shade for your baby and dress in clothes with long sleeves that will protect her from the sun. If the baby during breastfeeding because of the body heat sweat a lot, between you and the baby put a cloth diaper that will absorb sweat to avoid irritation and rash of sweat.

Take a break

Some mothers feel they do not need to swim in pools, lakes and local swimming areas if they breastfeeding, but this is not the case. Limit the time spent in the sun, use quality sun protective cream but do not miss to enjoy the pleasures of summer, because it has no reason.

Another thing that worries many moms is a swimsuit and how to prevent leakage of milk while wearing it. Our advice is that before you put on a bathing suit empty the breast and nurse your baby and put special pads for nursing mothers made from a special gel that can adhere to the nipple and prevent leakage. If you need to breastfeed after you came out of the water, wash the breasts with water or milk because breast milk has antibacterial properties

The positive side of breast-feeding during the summer is that you will always have fresh food and drink for babies, you will not have to drag a portable fridge and plenty of porridge or water. While breastfeeding we are sure that you will enjoy the summer with your baby.
