Learn How To Calm Babies Crying With This Foot Reflexology Guide

Baby Reflex is a gentle form of reflexology created especially for babies, infants and toddlers from one month to three years. Babies are especially responsive to reflexology. It works very well for most babies.

Baby Reflex was developed by Jenny Lee, a Chartered Physiotherapist and qualified reflexologist, following 15 years’ extensive research into the effects of regular Reflexology on Childhood Asthma. The main effects found of relaxation, improved sleep and child/parent bonding encouraged Jenny to create baby reflex in 2005.

Reflexology is effective and safe, it is based on the principle that reflex points found on the feet and hands correspond to specific organs, muscles, bones and body systems — and by gently applying pressure to these areas, you can help relieve discomfort brought on by congestion and blockage.

TIPS FOR A RELAXED REFLEXOLOGY SESSION WITH YOUR BABY

  • Use a gentle pressure as you would while massaging your baby.
  • If a child is sick, reflex points will be quite sensitive.
  • If your baby pulls its foot away from you as you are working is a good indication that it is not enjoyable and that you should stop and try another approach later.
  • Work no longer than 5-10 minutes for the entire treatment.

1. The tips of the toes correspond to the baby’s head and teeth. This can be especially helpful when babies are teething. By gently applying pressure to these little areas, you’ll be able to soothe her when she’s crying.

2. Applying pressure to the center of a child’s toes can help reduce the severity of a variety of sinus problems ranging from a runny nose to the common cold and other respiratory problems.

3. This area relieves congestion in the chest, making it effective for treating chronic coughs or colds that cause phlegm build ups.

4. The solar plexus is a complex network of nerves located in the abdomen, and behind the stomach. Sometimes, discomfort can come from this area, and result in an upset tummy, spasms, tightness, and trouble breathing. Try gently applying pressure to the area, to relieve some discomfort.

5. Performing reflexology on this area of the baby’s foot can help with digestive issues such as bowel obstruction and heartburn.

6. Foot massages can also relieve the baby’s discomfort from constipation. To stimulate the large intestine, try rubbing the lower regions of the sole. This will be especially great for babies who have been a little gassy.

7. If you suspect your baby’s tummy and hips have been bothering her, try applying pressure to this region, making sure to rub lightly.

This technique is only effective at reducing pain caused by certain conditions and other specific symptoms such as congestion. It is by no means a “cure-all” for certain diseases and should not replace proper medical attention that your baby would require if suffering from a serious condition. It is simply meant to increase their comfort, as well as yours, during periods of pain and stress.
